SLiM
Description
SLiM is an acronym for “Simple Login Manager“.
Lightweight, simple and independent of other desktop environments. Although fully configurable through themes and a file of options. It is especially suited for machines that do not require remote connections.
apt update && apt install slim
synaptic
Installing slim, with right LightDM setup, you’ll be asked wich do you prefer (slim or lightdm), choose slim.
Theme
Theme configuration you can make changes to is: /usr/share/slim/themes/arch-tetra/slim.theme
Theme configuration you can make changes to is:
(root) nano /usr/share/slim/themes/arch-tetra/slim.theme
You can use the command as root:
pkill -KILL -u YOUR_USER [will immediately appear slim and log in.
Autologin
To automatically connect to MATE session with SLiM we open the /etc/slim.conf configuration file in the terminal:
(root) nano /etc/slim.conf
We’re looking for the lines
# default user, leave blank or remove this line
# for avoid pre-loading the username.
#default_user simone [uncomment and set to your_user
# Focus the password field on start when default_user is set
# Set to “yes” to enable this feature
#focus_password no
# Automatically login the default user (without entering
# the password. Set to “yes” to enable this feature
#auto_login no [uncomment and set to yes
[CTRL]+[x] to save, confirm with y then [Enter] to exit.
Logoff then autologin should be functional.
